Position Summary:

As a Fiber Splicer, you are responsible for producing end-to-end fiber optic networks. Madiston Powertel, Inc. is looking for a Fiber Splicer that is experienced in installing, prepping, and splicing Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments. They must also be able to read and interpret construction diagrams and blueprints.

In addition, you will:

  • Install, prep, and splice Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments
  • Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks
  • Operate all testing equipment and be adept at the resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks
  • Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables
  • Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Refelctometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter
  • Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to a laptop computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment for single and ribbon fiber
  • Read and interpret existing fiber records, on maps or in the field
  • Complete daily production reports to document work performed; track and communicate daily production and materials
  • Construct proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
  • Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels and dB loss
  • Flexibility to travel as needed for assigned projects
  • Recognize and repair route issues
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while working including but not limited to hard hat, DOT compliant reflective shirts and vests, work boots, and safety goggles
  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment for yourself and the other members of your team
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 100lbs
  • Ability to work in remote or congested traffic areas
  • Willingness to work outdoors in every type of weather
  • Ability to work alone with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work safely
  • Have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
  • Have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
  • Looking for long-term projects
  • You enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team
  • You have at least 3-5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience
  • You are comfortable working on a ladder or bucket truck


  • The ability and experience in operating various hand tools, and basic computer equipment
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No experience required- Madiston PowerTel will provide on the job training


  • 21 years of age or older
  • Aerial cable installation experience
  • Certified Pole Climber
